one of the best winter marks on tynemouth beach is slaty gut, found at the northend of the beach down the stairs from the church on the main street, fish from the beach till the skeer is uncovered  follow the pipe to the end of the skeer and chuck south about 40-50yds best fished on a north wind, best baits is crab, mussel, squid, razor, worm baits will also land decent fish
