Although all marks on Whitley Bay beach have there own attraction, my favourite rock mark has to be North Crab Hill, just to the North of Marconi Point. North Wilikies is best fished on a small to medium tide with any decent sea running, but I find it fishes better during a north easterly or easterly sea. The best time to fish is as soon as you can get on the rocks down to low water. Fish either the right hand corner in front of the Cafe or the left hand corner, which I prefer. A cast between fourty and sixty yards straight out is required at either mark, the shorter casts often picking up the better fish. When the tide starts to push casting slightly left from the left corner can be very productive with fish quite often taken two at a time. Best of all round bait is lugworm from September to late spring, With fesh crab on occassions doing well. I myself have had good bags here as late as May. If none of these baits available ragworm has also accounted for good bags as has mussel. But like any fishing mark during the winter always take a variety of baits.
